Reverend HannanReverend Hannan joined the staff of Atascocita Presbyterian Church in September 2008. She is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelors degree in Elementary education. She attended Union Theological Seminary, in Richmond Virginia and received her Master’s of Divinity. |

Joe Weir, Director of MusicJoe Weir has been teaching choir in the Humble school district for the past 24 years. He started his teaching career at Atascocita Middle School in 1984. In the fall of 1991, Joe transferred to Humble High School where he taught for 15 years. When Atascocita High School opened in 2006, Joe transferred again to AHS where he serves as the Choir department Chair. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education from the University of North Texas in 1984 and his Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Houston in 1999. In addition to teaching, Joe has maintained a church position for most of his 24 years in the profession. He came to APC in the Spring of 2001 and been with us ever since. Joe finds a peace and acceptance at APC unlike any congregation that he has served in the past. He organizes the music for worship at APC and leads the Chancel Choir on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings. |
Carl Braden, PianistCarl V. Braden joined Atascocita Presbyterian Church “APC” in 2001 as the Pianist. He holds a Bachelor of Music, Summa cum Laude from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University-San Marcos). Carl is in his 3rd year at Atascocita High School serving as Associate Choir Director and has taught in Harlingen and Humble middle and high school levels. In addition to his service at APC, Carl also serves as accompanist for area clinics, workshops, choir camps and All-Region choirs and has also accompanied choirs on state-level performances. In 1997, Carl was named Teacher of the Year at Atascocita Middle School and is a member of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. He maintains active memberships in the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Choral Directors Association and the Texas Music Adjudicators Association. |
Susan Phillips, Director of HandbellsSusan Phillips joined Atascocita Presbyterian Church in 2000 as the Director of Handbells for both adults and youth. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Houston, Clear Lake and has been performing with various handbell choirs since 1981. For the past 11 years, Susan has been a member of Strikepoint, an auditioned community handbell choir that performs both locally and in cities across the nation. Throughout her musical career, Susan has had the honor of directing both adult and youth handbell choirs for various churches within the Humble and Atascocita areas. Susan continues to share her musical gifts with the community through her service on the board of the Greater Houston Handbell Association which holds Houston area handbell festivals for adults and youth. |
Linda Purves, Director of Christian EducationLinda joined the staff of APC in 2007 as Director of Christian Education. She holds a B.A. degree from Illinois College, Jacksonville, Illinois and will receive a Masters of Arts in Christian Education from Union Seminary – Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, Virginia in May, 2008. She is an ordained elder who has served in a variety of Christian education roles as a volunteer. In 2006, Linda served on the staff of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Beaumont as Interim Youth Director. Linda and her husband Tom moved back to Houston from Beaumont during the summer of 2007. This is the fourth time they have called Houston home! They are the parents of three adult daughters. Linda brings to APC a passion and enthusiasm for Christian Education. She considers it a privilege to serve God with this wonderful congregation of Christian disciples. |
