History of Atascocita Presbyterian Church

In 1976 the John Calvin Presbyterian Church was organized in Humble. Texas. It grew rapidly and by September, 1981, it had 590 members, resulting in serious space limitations in its existing facility. At that time the congregation was polled to determine the direction of its future growth. The options presented were:

  • Remain in the present location with the space limitations that existed.
  • Move to a new site within the City of Humble, establishing a large urban church.
  • Move into the two large residential areas, Kingwood and Atascocita, and establish two neighborhood churches.

The congregation voted overwhelmingly to move into the residential areas. In February of 1983 APC was organized with a membership of 45 families, meeting in the Oaks Elementary School. In November 1984 the first service was held in the original building. In June of 2001 a catastrophic fire destroyed that building and its contents. The congregation did not miss a single Sunday of worship thanks to the generosity of institutions in this community that provided space until construction of a new facility was complete. In May of 2003 the new building was ready for occupancy and, by the grace of God, Atascocita Presbyterian Church is once again able to pursue its vision to GLORIFY GOD, MAKE DISCIPLES, AND MEET HUMAN NEEDS.

In 2010 we began a Construction project building a Dedicated Sanctuary.  On January 22, 2012 we dedicated the Sanctuary to the glory of God.  It was a wonderful day of celebration.  We are continuing to serve and worship God in this place and in our world!
